I had the opportunity several years ago to debate a extreme fundamentalists at the local library. It was 2 years after leaving the borg. I had a great time disproving all his nonsense me was trying to defend. The guy I debated fancy himself a prophet of God. I had a lot of fun with this but. I will give credit to some of the things I learned as a JW. Still Totally ADD

Why referring to Watchtower as 'the Borg' is so apt!
by UnshackleTheChains init's interesting that when watchtower is referred to as the borg, it immediately brings to mind the scenes where individuals such as captain piccard are held prisoner within a vast collective hive type prison and unable to leave.
they are then turned into drones.
in fact here is how wikipedia explains it.. the borg are a fictional alien group that appear as recurring antagonists in the star trek franchise.

In the series if a drone left the Borg hive they was totally cut off from the voices of the hive or collective. When they would come back they were assimilated and brought back into the collective. Those who did have success to totally leave had a very difficult time in becoming normal. I feel this fictional Star Trek storyline fits the WT very well. So for all those who had successfully escape the Borg all I can say is live long and prosper. Still Totally ADD

Morpheus according to the news the guns was legally purchase. I am just trying to throw out a idea to help others who are victims. No you do not sue Toyota for a car accident but with insurance you will get compensated. It may be bottomless hole when it comes to this discussion but there has to be a rational discussion on this if we can help this problem.
No this is not handwringing all I trying to do is find a solution instead of trying to hold a position that is either right or wrong. Again I find it interesting the discussion was all about guns and little regard for the victims. As a X-cult member my thinking abilities are starting to work. This is how I learn. Still Totally ADD

What about the victims of shootings? I understand the reasoning on both sides of this debate but no one has talk about the victims. How are they going to be compensated for what happen to them? Are they just victims of a broken system that just wants to serve their own interest.
Already the big gun companies are making big money on this tragedy with their stock going up. Congress has a bill before them to make it alright to buy silencers. NRA keeps screaming to their followers the government is going to take our guns away. All this is going on while the very rich get even richer on this tragedy. But the victims get nothing except a moment of silence from the President and others.
I can see no justice in any of this. I am not and i repeat not anti-gun. But how is this problem going to be solved when no one will listen to each other. For me it's the victims of all this that should be considered not how gun companies can make more money.
I stated this earlier one this thread why don't we make it where all gun owners must have insurance on their guns. No insurance no guns. If a gun hurts someone a least the victims get some compensation. Just like what we do with our cars. Want to drive you have to have insurance. It is not the total solution but it is a start in helping victims. Think about it. Still Totally ADD

Yet there will be those in the cult condemning this woman for being at this concert instead of being out in service or at a meeting. I hope this is not the case but we are talking about a cult. Still Totally ADD

The shooter was not in islam nor part of any political group. They did find large amount of guns and ammo both at the hotel and home. In his car they found nitrate's for explosives. This murderer by all counts seem to look on the outside very normal. Even his family knew nothing about what he was doing in secret. Which put up a very interesting question. How could anyone know what was going on in his head? I ask this because many feel we need a better mental health care in this country. Maybe this would stop some of this insanity. Another question I would like to ask should we have the right to own military type weapons?
Finally what do you think about all gun owners being required to have gun insurance? Again I ask this question because none of those victims are protected financially for cost due to what happen to them. After all that is the reason we have car insurance in case we end up hurting someone with our car. To me this makes a lot of sense. If a gun is use to kill someone or hurt them at the very least the victim has some recourse to pay for medical or funeral expenses. I am really surprised the NRA has not come up with this idea.
I am sure this debate will continue long after we are all gone. Still Totally ADD

Hey Wing do you mean love bugs? Anyway thanks for all the different points of view. Although I don't understand why I got dislike strikes when I just reporting what I heard on the news. But that is OK with me. I remember a time when all of us at one time had to think all the same or we would say Jehovah will take care of it. It is of no surprise to me how all of us have gone down different paths of thinking. All I can say is good for us. Your reassimilation is completed. The Borg has no control over you. Just heard the count those who died is 58. 515 was injured in this shooting. Listen to his brother who was just interviewed. He was totally baffled on why his brother did this. You could tell he was as shocked as everyone else is. Police feel this was a one wolf operation who did this. That could change as time goes on. Still Totally ADD

Good comments from everyone. That does not mean I agree with all of them but for my education in this matter it really helps me to understand all views on this matter. I did hear on the news Nevada has the most lax laws on gun owner ship in the U.S.. Also before the U.S. Congress there is a bill they will consider to make it legal to own gun silencer. The NRA said the noise from a hunters gun hurts there ears. Weather true or not I can't believe such a law is even being considered. Still Totally ADD
